The search for a Selma man, reported missing since Sunday, came to a tragic end Tuesday when his body was discovered in a drainage ditch in the 1800 block of Alabama Highway 14 East.

Chester “Sam” Walker, 47, was reported missing after last being seen last on Sunday at 1 a.m. by family members near Walker’s home on the 1900 block of Marie Foster Street. He was reported to be wearing a red shirt, blue pants with white or beige shoes, all fitting the clothing of the body discovered Tuesday morning.

Working with the police department and the Dallas County Coroners office, the Selma Fire Department assisted in helping remove the body from the drainage ditch.

Selma Chief of Police William T. Riley confirmed the body was Walker Tuesday and a department release later in the evening said the authorities had confirmed Walker’s death and that his body was transported to the state forensics lab in Montgomery for an autopsy.

Lt. Curtis Muhannad, with the Selma Police Department, did not release any information as to the cause of death or if there were any signs of foul play when the body was discovered.

In the missing person’s release Monday, the department said Walker suffered from a mental disorder and was on medication.
