Thirty-one-year-old Josue Hebbeler stopped for gas and other items at the Chevron on U.S. Highway 80 East when he was held at gunpoint, threatened and robbed of all the money he had in his wallet — nearly $170. That was more than a year ago, on July 7, 2012. Three weeks later the man who was suspected of forcefully robbing Hebbeler, was arrested.

Wednesday, after more than a year has passed since committing his crimes, Selma native, Kendrick Gunn, 23, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for robbery by Circuit Judge Collins Pettaway.

District Attorney Michael Jackson was pleased Selma will have one less robber on the streets.

“We have gotten another robber and gunslinger off the streets,” Jackson said Wednesday, after Gunn’s sentencing.

In Gunn’s written testimony he wrote he was outside of the Chevron that early July morning looking to get some quick money.

“I walked in front of the store. I then walked out of the sight of the front of the store and waited on the trucker to come out,” Gunn wrote. “I could see the front of the store as well as his truck. Once he exited the store and got to the corner, I started walking up behind him pulling the gun from my pants.”

Gunn wrote that once he got close to Hebbeler, he yelled for him to, “Give it up,” as he pointed the gun at him.

Gunn said he used the money he robbed from Hebbeler to buy shoes and CD’s.
