It’s nearly impossible to avoid computers in today’s world, and starting next Tuesday, parents and guardians of students in the Dallas County School System will have a chance to work on their own computer skills in order to become more comfortable with current technologies.
Dorothy Irvin, Parent Facilitator and Homeless Liaison with the DCSS, said the classes, which will be held every Tuesday throughout the school year at two locations.
One session will be held from 10 a.m. to noon every Tuesday at the Dallas County Learning Resource Center at 5570 Water Avenue, and a second will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Keith High School in Orrville.
The classes, which have been offered during past school years as well, provide parents and guardians with a chance to learn the basics about computers and the benefits of being computer literate.
“It’s very important these days to be computer literate,” Irvin said. “Every part of our life is becoming computerized; from our cell phones to everyday household equipment.”
Irvin said she has seen a number of parents and guardians benefit from attending the classes over past years, and hopes to see a large number turn out for classes this year.
“We’ve had great results with parents coming to these classes and going on to get jobs with the skills they have learned here,” Irvin said Monday. “We just invited everyone to come with an open mind and ready to learn.”
