Joseph William Richardson of Sprott and Marion (Perry County) was born April 25, 1927. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Grover C. Richardson; his brothers, Herman Goodwin Richardson (Louise) and James Leonard Richardson (Mary Sue); and his sisters, Sarah Frances R. Watters (Woodrow Marshall), Doris R. Taylor (Hayward), and Annie C. Richardson. He was reared by his aunts, Misses Polly and Bessie Stone, and his uncle, Joe Stone. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Nunnally Richardson; his sister, Bennie R. Laney; his nephews, Ruben G. Watters (Beth) and James (Jim) M. Watters; his great-nieces, Elizabeth L. Watters and Sarah Jean Watters; his great-nephews, Joseph F. Watters and R. Harrison Watters.

Joe graduated from Marion Military Institute High School and Junior College. Thereafter, he attended Alabama Polytechnical Institute (Auburn University) and graduated in 1951 with a degree in Animal Husbandry. While at Auburn, he was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. During World War II, Joe was stationed in Guam where he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy. Joe was a real estate/insurance agent and a farmer at heart. He owned and operated the Richardson Agency in Marion for 30 years. He was a faithful member of Siloam Baptist Church where his great, great, great grandfather, Charles Crow, served as the church’s first minister in 1832. He especially loved his Sunday School Class and his teacher, Mr. Woodfin Griffin. Joe was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing with his friends and family. He was a proud supporter of Auburn University and its athletic programs. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Serviteer Club.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Pine Flat Baptist Church Cemetery in Suttle.
