Meadowview Christian dominated Fort Dale on Thursday night in the Trojans final regular season home volleyball game.
The Eagles were no match for Meadowview, who won each set by a wide margin. The Trojans won the match 25-12, 25-18 and 25-14 behind precision serving, excellent defense and having fun.
“I just wanted my girls to enjoy the last regular season home game,” Trojans head coach Tim Burton said. “Just have fun. Win, lose, draw — have fun.”
Burton was proud of his team’s effort serving the ball, which is a strength that could dictate how far they go in the postseason.
“[Serving well is] a must,” Burton said. “You can’t give a point and take a point because you don’t know where the 25 is going to come out of. It also breaks momentum when you serve bad too.”
Next up for Meadowview is a home playoff game against Sumter Academy, a team that they have defeated twice this season. If the Trojans manage to win that game, they will play at Southern at 1 p.m. Tuesday against the winner of the Bessemer versus Lowndes game.
If the Trojans can win their first two games of the regional tournament, they will reach the AISA Class A Final Four, because the top two teams from each regional tournament make the Final Four.
Burton said his expectations for the playoffs are for his girls to play good volleyball. He feels like if they do, they could make a deep run.
“If they play to their capabilities, they stand a good chance of going a long way,” Burton said.
