The Meadowview Christian Trojans continued their march towards a state championship by opening up the Class AA, Region 2 tournament with an easy victory over Sumter Academy on Monday night.

The Trojans won 25-11, 25-4 and 25-17 in a match that really was never close.

Meadowview head coach Tim Burton said his team served well in both matches, with Christina Dabit leading the way.

“She was on fire tonight. In the first and second game, she served 10 or 15 points in a row,” Burton said of Dabit. “That’s uncommon for anybody.”

The final game was the only one with any kind of drama, but the Trojans quickly finished that one off after the Eagles made it interesting.

Now, Meadowview’s focus shifts to the winner of Monday night’s Bessemer vs. Lowndes game, who they will meet Tuesday at Southern Academy in the next round of their regional tournament.

If Meadowview wins their first game, they will advance on to the final four, regardless of what happens in the regional championship game that follows.

After watching Monday’s victory, Burton said he feels like his team is ready to play well Tuesday.

“They seem like they are in a position where they need to be,” Burton said. “I don’t think they have any jitters. I’m sure they have some but they don’t appear to have any. They look like they are just ready to play.”

Burton said before the season he told his team how good it could be this season.

“I told them at the beginning of the year that they were good enough to win the state,” Burton said.

“I wanted to convince them how good they were. I’ve been telling them on and off throughout the year how good they are.”

His team’s push for a championship continues Tuesday at 1 p.m.

If the Trojans win that game they will play again at 5 p.m. for the regional championship, with both teams in that matchup advancing to the AISA final four.
