A Valley Grande woman was sentenced to 25 years in jail Monday after pleading guilty to murdering her 71-year-old father.
Natasha Davenport, 32, 7887 Alabama Hwy. 22, Valley Grande, admitted to murdering her father and disposing of his body. The body of her father, James Davenport, has never been found.
Fourth Judicial Circuit District Attorney Michael Jackson said the murder, which took place in July 2011, was gruesome and cold-blooded.
“Someone who kills their own father must have ice in their veins,” Jackson said. “Given the fact that the body was never found, I think the sentence was fair.”
According to investigator’s reports, Davenport and her father got into an argument while she was watching a movie.
Davenport walked back to her father’s bedroom after the argument to find him packing his bags, according to reports. A hatchet fell on the floor while her father attempted to pack a pillow.
Davenport’s father asked her to return the hatchet and he pulled out a pocketknife. The argument continued and Davenport allegedly hit her father in the head with the hatchet. Davenport then pushed her father back onto the bed, straddled him and allegedly stabbed him with the pocketknife, according to reports.
Davenport told investigators she covered most of his body with a trash bag, rolled him in a blanket and went back to her movie.
Davenport and Joseph Wayne Hall, who is also charged in the murder, tell different stories about how they disposed of the body.
Howell said the pair waited one day and threw the body into a ravine. Davenport said they waited three to four days and threw the body over a cliff.
Jackson said Howell would be sentenced at a later date for abuse of a corpse.
