Businesses on Dallas Avenue need support

Just outside of Selma’s city limits is a massive construction project that has affected many of our daily commutes.
It’s a necessary inconvenience. After it is complete, West Dallas Avenue will have a fresh, new bridge capable of handling 18-wheeler traffic.
But currently, commutes that would normally cruise past Old Live Oak Cemetery now take J.L. Chestnut Boulevard and U.S. 80. It’s good for businesses on U.S. 80. Perhaps a drive home now includes a stop at Zaxby’s for dinner.
But what about Frames and Things or Vassers Mini Mart? Those businesses have seen a decline in traffic due to bridge construction.
The construction has several more months before completion, but we should make a conscious effort to support those businesses we frequented just months ago. A mile or two extra may be a small inconvenience, but it helps tremendously for business owners.
