Dallas County residents can enjoy a morning meal and learn about issues facing local farmers at the 2013 Buttonhole Breakfast.
The event, sponsored by Alabama Ag Credit, will be Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. at the Central Alabama Farmers Co-op. Tickets are $10 per person and the event is open to the public. The proceeds will help pay for the event.
The Black Belt’s rich farming history makes the event especially relevant, Chamber of Commerce executive director Sheryl Smedley said.
“Agriculture is one of the oldest and biggest industries in the area,” she said. “Agriculture has been providing jobs and a way of life for generations. The breakfast is a good event because it brings people from the business and farming community together.”
In addition to a hearty breakfast, attendees also have a chance to listen to a panel of farmers who will discuss local and national farming issues and take questions from guests. Alfa Insurance President Jimmy Parnell will be the guest speaker.
Members of Leadership Selma-Dallas County will also be involved in the event as a part of its Agricultural Industry Day, Smedley said.
She added that some of the panelists will be from the local catfish industry, which is another huge driver in local economy.
