Halloween night football Thursday proved a trick for the Lowndes Academy Rebels and a treat for the Morgan Academy Senators, who “out spooked” the Rebels 41-24 at Rebel Field in Hayneville.

The win improved the Senators to 3-7 while the loss dropped the Rebels to 3-7.

Morgan Academy head football coach Bob Taylor said his kids played hard and wanted to end to end the season on a high note.

He said, “We executed when we needed to and didn’t get tired.”

Jamie Bearden and Harrison Watters were the go to guys for the Senators Thursday night. “Those two have been tremendous leaders all year for us, the two seniors,” Taylor said. “I’m glad to see them finish out strong for their careers. They’ll be moving on to the All-Star game later on this year, so I was really proud of them.”

He also had praise for sophomore quarterback Harrison Adams, who he said has “a bright future ahead of him.”

On the other side of the field, Lowndes Academy head football coach Matt Marshall said, “I was a little disappointed in the level of effort” by his squad.

He said the Rebels knew the Senators would throw the ball a lot.

“It was a difficult game. We’re disappointed. We thought we were a better team than what we showed tonight. But give them the credit. They fought hard and made some good plays on us.”

Morgan was 18 for 29 passing for 283 yards and three touchdown and rushed 46 times for 189 yards.

Bearden had 25 carries for 97 yards and three touchdowns, while Watters had nine receptions for 92 yards and two touchdowns.

The Senators led 27-12 at the half and 34-18 after three quarters.

Rebels senior Garrett Headley had 40 rushes for 112 yards and two touchdowns, seven receptions for 129 yards and one touchdown and a fumble return for 15 yards and a touchdown.
