Local businesses come together for Nov. 4 event

A number of small businesses located on Broad Street in Selma are joining together to host an event this Monday to help the public learn about lesser-known local businesses.

Carl Bowline, owner of Madden & Associates advertising company, has been working with Butler Truax Jewelers owner Jim Truax on the planning of the event, and he said finding a location for the event was easy to do.

“With all the traffic downtown, it is a great chance to attract attention to all of these companies, instead of keeping that to the one’s here on Broad Street,” Bowline said. “It’s the most vibrant block in downtown Selma, and we want to draw more people down there.”

Bowline said that while the roots of the event can be traced to annual holiday sales held at Butler Truax in the past, this year’s focus turns to local companies that might not be as well know as Butler Truax and nearby Carter Drug Co.

We want to get the local businesses that supply things that people don’t know about, and try to bring them into Carters and allez-oup to draw attention to them ahead of the holidays,” Bowline said. “These are locally owned, family owned companies that already contribute a lot to the local community.”

The event, which will run from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Carter Drug. Co., Butler Truax Jewelers and allez-oup on November 4, will feature booths for Yeargan Farms, Mee Too, Sweet Advantages, Mark’s Mart, Rountree Outdoors and Frames N’ Things.
