ORRVILLE — The Annual West Dallas Antique Tractor, Car, Gas Engine and Craft Show is returning to Orrville Nov. 9 with a festive day fun for all ages.
Sponsored by the Orrville Volunteer Fire Department and the Friends of Orville Fire, the show is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the site of the Orrville Community Center and Fire Department.
“The restored tractors, cars, and gas engines are a work of art that most people never think about,” Karen Grimes, the event organizer, said. “There is a lot of talent and patience that goes into the restoration of antiques. They each have a story to tell for anyone willing to take the time to listen.”
Guests will get a new thrill this year, as the department has added a collection of antique boats, which were made in Dallas County in the late 50s and early 60s.
The community can enjoy a fun day knowing the proceeds will go to the operational expenses for the Orrville Volunteer Fire Department.
Dallas County Commissioner Larry Nickles said the county commission is a big supporter of the antique show. He said the all Dallas County Commissioners have planned to attend.
“We are excited about it,” Nickles said. “It brings people in from several states. We attract several thousand each year.”
The event will include arts and crafts, pedal tractor races, a petting zoo, musical entertainment, a tractor parade at noon, an appearance from the Smokey the Bear and more.
“Some of the visual arts include pottery, basket weaving, vine creations, blacksmithing, painting, quilting handmade crafts,” Grimes said.
She also said music is a big part of the show and this year’s theme.
“This year’s theme is ‘I’ve got friends with tractors’ by Rodney Atkins,” she said. “The T-shirt design this year is in memory of anyone who has ever had something go wrong.”
Musical guests James Jackson, Destiny Brown with friend Chase, Becky Boler Vines, Bailey Jordan Aquair, Camilla Tutt and Burton Fuller and others will perform throughout the day.
“Our department works hard to serve the community, and it’s very important that you support them,” Grimes said. “The fire department hopes to have something for everyone.”
