Concordia College Alabama was blown out by Georgia Military College 52-10 Saturday at Memorial Stadium.

The Hornets turned the football over seven times — five interceptions and two fumbles — stopping any momentum the Concordia offense found during the game. After being down 42-6 at halftime, the Hornets played better in the second half to keep the score from getting more out of hand.

“We don’t play until the third or fourth quarter,” Hornets head coach Don Lee said. “We wait for people to bring it us and we’ve got to learn to bring it to them. That’s what you are dealing with when you are dealing with a young team, knowing that you have to come out ready to go.”

Lee was proud that his team never quit fighting, even after the game was well out of hand.

Georgia Military, now 10-0 on the season, got off to a quick start. The Bulldogs racked up 345 of their 380 total yards in the first half, but it was their defense that kept the upset-minded Hornets from making it a game.

“The guys have done a tremendous job defensively all year making tackles and forcing turnovers and we were able to do that today several times,” Georgia Military head coach Bert Williams said.

Jovon Robinson capped the Bulldogs first drive of the game with a 1-yard touchdown run to give Georgia Military a quick 7-0 lead. On the next drive, Concordia quarterback Jeremy Buffington was intercepted and the Bulldogs ran it back 45-yards for a touchdown to take a 14-0 lead with 10:55 remaining in the first quarter.

On the following drive, Concordia answered with its lone touchdown drive of the day. Buffington threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to receiver Teravious Mitchell to make the score 14-6, following a failed two-point conversion.

Georgia Military quickly re-took control of the game, as Robinson scored on a 43-yard run to extend the Bulldogs lead to 21-6 with 3:16 remaining in the first quarter.

After the teams traded punts, Robinson ran for a 63-yard touchdown to extend the Bulldogs lead to 28-6. Before halftime, Georgia Military tacked on two more touchdowns — including one on a 46-yard reverse pass — to take a 42-6 lead at the break.

In the second half, the rout continued. The Bulldogs Patrick Thomas threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Ty Flournoy Smith to make the score 49-6 Bulldogs. From there, Georgia Military’s Brandon Rutherford kicked a 47-yard field goal to extend the lead to 52-6. Concordia’s defense would sack the Bulldogs Emanuel Byrd for a safety in the fourth quarter. On the Bulldogs next possession, a high snap on a punt would sail through the end zone for another safety, making the score 52-10.

Concordia plays at Delta State University in Cleveland, Miss. next Saturday. The Hornets are now 1-5 on the season.
