John Gary Steinfeldt

John Gary Steinfeldt passed away peacefully at his home on November 5, 2013.

Gary was born in Galesburg, Illinois, and attended Knox College where he played baseball and was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. Upon graduation, he received his ROTC commission in the U.S. Army where he attained the rank of Captain. He later became an associate with Sears, Roebuck & Co., serving in several managerial positions throughout the southeast. This career led him to Selma, AL. in 1975 where he serves as manager until 1982. After his career with Sears, he pursued many business interest including owning Security Polygraph Systems and UltraVend, a vending machine business. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Selma Country Club, and the social men’s clubs: The Cotillion Club and LaRidotta, and the Selma Quarterback Club. He had a deep love for his family and enjoyed boating and fishing at his lake home in North Carolina. He will be remembered by his family for his kindness and generosity of spirit.

Gary is survived by his wife of 51 years, Nancy Anderson Steinfeldt; his two daughters: Angie (Joe) Letzer of Birmingham, AL., and Susan (Joey) Hutto of Pell City, AL.: five grandchildren: William Elizabeth, and Kathryne Letzer and John and Virginia Hutto; and one sister, Anne Sizemore of El Paso, IL.

A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Selma, AL on Friday, November 8, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive visitors in the church Warren Room beginning at 10:00 a.m.
