Four non-profit organizations that call Selma home will now be better able to serve their community following donations from one nationwide financial institution.

Wells Fargo & Company announced last week a total of $12,500 in donations would be spread between the YMCA of Selma, Selma and Blackbelt Regional Abuse Sanctuary, the Alabama Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Selma Dallas County Public Library — four institutions Wells Fargo business banking manager Billy Livings said are easy to support.

“These four organization are very deserving of this support and we know that they will put it to good use,” Livings said.

The donations to each organization are ear-marked to help them in certain areas. The money to the YMCA will help replace older used fitness equipment.

The library will receive money to continue offering learning opportunities to families. Money sent to the SABRA Sanctuary will be used to educate students in the area about personal safety issues and the Alabama Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics will use their donations to support their Reach Out and Read program, which aims to increase literacy amongst people of all ages in the Black Belt.

Cedric Young, business banking relationship manager with Wells Fargo, said these location organizations are important members of the community.

“We are proud to support these groups and the work they do to make life better for so many individuals and families in our community,” Young said. “There is such a great need out there and we have a committee at our office who pull information from team members about groups doing work in the community, and we try to send our money to places where it has the chance to make the greatest impact.”
