Mr. Willie L. Gilford, Sr., 73, of Selma, Alabama passed away at home November 29, 2013. He was born in Fairfield,AL and grew up in Beloit, Al graduating from Dallas County Training School. He received a bachelors of Science degree from Alabama A &M and a Masters of Science degree from Fisk University. He was Honorably discharged from the US Air Force, having served during the Vietnam War. He was a retired Selma high School Science teacher having served nearly 35 years. He was a lifelong member of Mt. Calvary AME Church Beloit, AL. Public visitation will be Friday, December 6, 2013 at Miller Funeral Home 608 St. Phillips Street Selma, AL 36701 from 6pm-8pm, including a public Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Omega Chapter Program at 7:06 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, December 7, 2013 , 12:00 noon at Historic Brown Chapel AME Church, 410 Martin Luther King Street, Selma, AL 36701 with Rev. Amos Smith officiating. Burial will be held at Pineview Memory Gardens, Valley Grande, AL, directed by Miller Funeral Service. Survivors include spouse of 43 years, Mrs. Linda Gilford; sons, Dr. Willie L. Gilford, Jr., David Don Gilford, Raymond M. Gilford; daughters, Tammi K. Gilford, Tiffani L. Gilford; sisters, Portia Graves, Alice Giles, Marsha Fincher, and Wilhelmina Crawford; twelve grandchildren, one son-in-law, two daughters-in-laws.
Mr. Gilford was preceded in death by his parents, Pettus and Wilma Gilford; son, Leonard B. Gilford.
