Bring your cans

Published 1:06 am Saturday, October 23, 2010

We are less than a week away from our next donation to the Claude C. Brown YMCA. Earlier this month I set a goal of presenting the YMCA with a $100 donation from our aluminum can drive.

From previous visits to the recycling center, we have collected $49.90. To make our goal, we need to collect about 90 pounds of cans. We have a small collection at the Times-Journal office thus far, but I would estimate it is less than $20 in cans.

It’s time to bring your can collections to our office. If your business has collected cans and you need someone to pick them up, please call the office and let us know. We will visit your place of work to gather your cans on our way to the recycling center this week.

As a reminder, here are the requests for donating aluminum cans:

Rinse out beer cans. The smell of fermenting booze is not something we would like to experience.

Collect cans in large bangs or small bags, but please do not place bags within bags. When rifling though so much plastic, some cans get caught in the plastic, and we don’t want to miss out on any can. The YMCA needs every two-cent can we can get.

Only donate aluminum cans. The recycling center does not accept aluminum foil, aluminum one-time use pans or glass bottles.

Bring cans this week. This is the most important item in the list. Without your help and your cans, our can drive won’t make as large of an impact.

Want to give the newspaper your two cents? Bring us the can. We know what to do with it.

If you would like to contribute to our collection drive, please brings bags or boxes filled with aluminum cans to the Times-Journal office, 1018 Water Ave. Ask that the cans be given to me, Laura Fenton.

Thanks to all the support from those who donated last week, and thank you in advance for all the donations this week.
