Last call to help Angel Tree children

With the deadline to drop off gifts for Children on their Angel Tree, leaders of the local chapter of the Salvation Army are putting out one last call for Selma residents to donate toys and coats.
Maj. Mary Welch with the Salvation Army said she believed fewer than 100 children’s names remain on the trees as of Wednesday, just two days ahead of Friday’s donation deadline.
“We have a tree at Walgreens, the library and JCPenney,” Welch said. “The last time I checked , there about two dozen names left on each tree.”
Welch said people who have taken a child’s name from one of the Angel Trees can drop those donations off at the Salvation Army’s office located at 2104 Franklin St. in Selma before 5:30 p.m. on Friday evening.
Welch said that with so many names not taken from the trees, she would welcome small donations which could be given to those children.
“Any toys, clothes or coats people want to drop off, we will pair up with something else to be put into a small package for a child who’s name hasn’t been taken,” Welch said. “We want to be sure every kid gets something this year.”
