Dallas County (9-2) is ranked No. 1 in Class 4A in the first Alabama Sports Writers Association rankings of the year, and the Hornets aren’t the only local team recognized in the polls.

Dallas County’s only losses of the year came to Class 6A’s No. 5 ranked Mountain Brook and No. 7 Albertville in the Capstone Classic during Thanksgiving week.

Keith (8-1) is ranked No. 2 in the Class 1A poll and Southside (2-5), fresh off a trip to the state championship game last season, is ranked No. 7 in Class 3A.

The Panthers and Bears match up Friday night at Southside High School.

The only girls team ranked in the area is Keith (5-2). The Lady Bears are ranked No. 9 in the first Class 1A poll of the year.
