Commuters will have to avoid Dallas County Road 83 on their way to work Friday.
A Norfolk Southern train derailed Thursday night on Dallas County Road 83 after experiencing mechanical problems.
The derailment didn’t cause any injuries, Dallas County Emergency Management Director Rhonda Abbott said, but Dallas County Road 83 will be closed from Alabama Highway 14 to the railroad tracks until the train is removed Friday morning.
“It’s a short portion of road, but a lot of people use it to commute,” Abbott said. “Commuters will need to take County Road 79 as a detour until the train is removed.”
She said the train cars are sitting upright on the road, but the train can’t move because a small section derailed.
“The road will be closed because it will probably be sometime in the morning before they can get a crane to set it up on the tracks,” she said. “The derailment doesn’t pose any danger to the public.”
