Focus on the real reason for the season

Hey, Santa. I have to admit that writing this letter is a tad bit awkward since I have never written to you before. See, my parents never told me you existed. You were never a part of my childhood and neither were Christmas trees, presents or anything often associated with the commercialize version of Christmas.
While most might perceive that to be sad and pity me, I do not see the harm. Matter of fact, I think it kept me from being distracted from the true meaning of Christmas.
In actuality, I have some concerns about you being a large factor for what many consider to be a “merry Christmas.”
I am a little worried that children are led to believe that Christmas does not come until you stop at their home Christmas Eve and leave presents under their tree during your one-night trip around the world. If that is the case, it is unfortunate.
I want children and adults to understand that gifts should not affect the Christmas season. Christmas is truly a special time to honor king of all kings — Jesus Christ.
It is a great time to appreciate Him and all that He has done for us as we gather around a delicious meal with families and friends.
I hope this letter does not offend you, Santa.
I certainly understand your intent is to spread Christmas joy and love, but it is a little scary to know that message of Christmas has to be presented by you instead solely Jesus Christ, as if the His image is not appealing enough to our youth.
Family tradition might be one reason people cling on to you every year, but not all traditions are healthy. It is important people really think about any tradition they choose to adopt.
Santa, I am not sure if you have chosen to continue to read this letter, or you have chosen to crumble it up, throw it away and print my name on the Naughty List. I hope you are still reading, because I want you to understand where I am coming from. My intent is purely good.
I am not trying to disappoint you, only make sure everyone knows who to focus on this upcoming Christmas season and every one that follows.
Speaking of the Naughty List, it is another thing I would like to discuss with you. The thought children might take your judgment of them more seriously than God himself, because your judgment can keep them from receiving gifts is disturbing to say the least.
I would hope children want to good all year around, because it is the right thing to do. For many that may be the case, but for others the fear of only getting a lump of coal in their stocking is what scares them into being on their best behavior.
Let us be clear, Santa; If people continue to tell their children, nieces, nephews, brother and sisters about you, I will not complain. I am not trying to make everyone turn against you. I just want to make sure people are really paying attention to the message they send when they speak of you.
Have a holly, jolly Christmas and a blessed holiday.
