The recent frigid weather has brought in frosty days and nights, but it has also prompted the governor to issue a state of emergency.

Gov. Robert Bentley proclaimed a state of emergency for all Alabama counties over the potential propane gas storage caused by the harsh winter weather.

“With life threatening cold temperatures expected once again, it is important for Alabamians to have the necessary heating resources available for survival,” Governor Robert Bentley said in a news release. “This state of emergency will help Alabamians have an uninterrupted supply of propane gas and other home heating fuels during this period of winter weather.”

The declaration allows Bentley to order various emergency preparedness measures, some of which will include the price gouging law that can result in significant price increase for propane gas customers, according to the release.

In an effort to help with supply and demand of propane gas, the state of emergency will lift the federal transportation motor carrier laws and allow greater flexibility in the delivery to businesses, schools and homes, according to the release.

The state of emergency suspends rules and regulations regarding the purchase and sale of propane gas, allowing propane tank owners to purchase propane from any company that sells it, according to the press release.
