The Morgan Academy Senators boys’ varsity won Friday without taking the court, because Bessemer Academy forfeited their first round Class AAA, Region 2 tournament contest.
With the win, the Senators are now guaranteed a spot in the AISA Elite Eight and are a step closer to a state championship.
But Morgan still has region tournament games left Saturday and Monday and with every win the Senators can improve their seeding next week.
“It isn’t the way we wanted to move on,” Morgan head coach Bob Taylor said. “We wanted to win on the court. It takes some of the pressure off to know that you are in and that you have a good opportunity to move on and that you are still playing.”
The Senators will play Tuscaloosa Saturday in the semifinals of the Class AAA region tournament.
Kingwood 50, Morgan 32 (Girls)
Morgan Academy’s Lady Senators saw their season come to an end Friday night in the quarterfinals of the Class AAA Region 2 basketbell tournament.
Kingwood defeated Morgan 50-32.
