Antebellum dresses and tales of times long since passed will soon fill the halls of local historic structures with the return of annual Selma Pilgrimage in March.
Candi Duncan, who will serve as the ticket chairperson for the annual Pilgrimage, which will take place on March 14 and 15, said this year’s event will feature buildings and stories sure to offer something interesting to a wide variety of people.
“We just have so much more to offer than other places do,” Duncan said. “People enjoy looking at the architecture features of the home. Some enjoy hearing the history of the buildings, and others like the furnishings that are there. It’s got some much that is interesting to all kinds of people.”
The list of host sites has been finalized and features a number of homes and buildings Duncan said are sure to attract a varied audience.
“I really enjoy the architectural features of these homes, and there are so many in this year’s show which will wow the crowds,” Duncan said.
This year’s pilgrimage will feature tours of the Old Depot Museum, Sturdivant Hall, the Vaughn-Smitherman Museum, Kenan’s Mill and Old Live Oak Cemetery along with six historic homes in Selma.
Duncan said the event has seen a rise in the number of younger attendants over recent years.
“It used to be mainly an older crowd, but now that we have the website we are seeing a younger group getting involved as well,” Duncan said. “And overall, I know gas prices stalled the crowd numbers for a year or two, but it’s starting to come back.”
Tickets are available for pre-sale, as well as on the days of the event.
