The Dallas County Commission shared their appreciation Monday for dedication county workers had during the snowstorm in January.
Commission members complimented the effort put forth by county employees to keep the community safe during the harsh snowstorm that hit the region in late January. During Monday’s commission meeting, commissioners said they were pleased with how quickly workers responded to the rare and dangerous winter storm.
“I personally want to thank you for what you did,” Dallas County Probate Judge Kim Ballard said to Dallas County Emergency Management Agency Director Rhonda Abbott said. “I know of the hours you spent during that storm event.”
Abbott thanked the Dallas County Commission for approving the Dallas County Emergency Management Agency decision to close county roads due to the hazardous road conditions.
“I know it’s a hard decision for you guys to have to make,” Abbott said. “Thank you all for letting us make that decision, because everybody settled down. That’s what kept people off the roads and saved lives.”
Ballard also complimented the county’s road crews, who battled constantly changing road conditions throughout the county.
“I have never seen a better coordinated effort,” Ballard said. “While all the communities around us were getting criticism for not being prepared, the entire crew had sand, not just on bridges, but several roads.”
