A woman wanted by law enforcement officials in connection with a Friday morning shooting at a Selma barbershop is now in custody.

Lakeisha Michelle Prince, 39, of Selma, accompanied by her attorney, turned herself in to authorities shortly before 10 a.m. Monday morning.

Lt. Curtis Muhannad, with the Selma Police Department, said Prince now faces a charge of attempted murder and no bond.

Prince was wanted by Selma Police for her reported involvement in a Friday shooting on the 2700 block of Alabama Avenue, where authorities found a Selma man, in his 30s, lying on the floor. The man, who Muhannad said is now in stable condition at a Montgomery hospital, had been the victim of a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

According to Muhannad, both the victim and witnesses said the victim was reportedly shot by his ex-girlfriend, Prince, with a small silver revolver.

Muhannad said the fact Prince turned herself in to authorities on Monday would not only help the department, but could also help her when she appears in court.

“This saves a lot of man hours and resources in trying to locate her,” Muhannad said. “And she would have been looking at a fugitive from justice charge if she wouldn’t have turned herself in or if another law enforcement agency would have made contact with her first.”
