A Selma man accused of shooting another man during an argument says he is innocent of those charges.

Darius Gayle, 28, of 29 Eden Street is charged with attempted murder in the recent shooting of Napoleon Neely Jr. at Craig Field.

He appeared in District Court Friday morning before Judge Bob Armstrong.

Authorities said Gayle and Neely became involved in an argument during a game of dominoes.

The verbal back-and-forth escalated into a physical altercation.

Sgt. Mike Grantham of the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department said eyewitnesses told investigators Gayle pulled out a handgun and fired. The bullet hit the victim under his left arm, Grantham said.

During the hearing, Gayle produced a witness, his fiance, Lewanna Gloss, who said Gayle went home and wasn’t on the scene at the time of the shooting.

Assistant District Attorney John Oxford said the victim told authorities Gayle shot him. “That’s what we’re going with,” Oxford said, “what the victim told us.”

Armstrong set Gayle’s bond at $250,000.
