A state elected official is providing eligible voters without the proper identification to vote with yet another option.

Secretary of State Jim Bennett and his staff have arranged a mobile site to travel across Alabama providing photo voter ID cards to eligible voters. The mobile site is scheduled to be in the Dallas County area March 28.

“What we are trying to do with these mobile site visits is get to some of the more remote areas of the county to make this process convenient for all voters,” Bennett stated in a press release.

The site will visit the Selma Public Library located on 1103 Selma Ave March 28 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.. They will also be stationed at the Orrville Community Center on 463 Academy Street March 28 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Voters can always get a free voter ID at their Board of Registrars office in their county or in the Secretary of State’s office, Bennett wrote in the press release.

To receive the card you must provide a document that contains your full legal name and date of birth, according to Bennett’s office.

According to the Alabama Photo Voter Identification website, the Act 2011-673 requires an Alabama voter to have a specific type of photo identification at the polls in order to vote, which is effective starting June 3 with the primary election.

Bennett said that he hopes that eligible voters lacking the correct documentation to vote will take advantage of this opportunity.

“We hope that registered voters within the community will take part in these mobile visits,” Bennett wrote in the press release.
