A Monday morning robbery has the Selma Police Department searching for answers.
According to Sgt. Doug Stewart, at 11:51 a.m. a male subject entered Cahaba Furniture, presented a note to the clerk demanding money and threatened use of a handgun.
Store-owner Kim Harris said the suspect was very calm when he approached the counter,
“I was on the phone with my daughter and hung up with her and he walked in and handed me a note,” she said. “He gave me a note that read ‘I have a gun and I will kill you. Give me the money.”
Harris said the note read he would kill everyone else in the store if his demands weren’t met.
Harris said she opened the register and gave the suspect the $550 to $575 inside. Harris said during the robbery the suspect kept reaching inside his pocket as if for a gun.
When she began to dial 911, Harris said the suspect fled with the cash toward Lauderdale Street and Water Avenue.
Harris said a number of people on the street saw the suspect as he ran down an alley.
“There were lots of witnesses,” she said.
Stewart said investigators are searching for a black male wearing a knee-length black leather coat with a hood, and he had red markings on his face.
