Selma and Dallas County could be in for two separate batches of severe weather this weekend.

The National Weather Service is forecasting two different rounds of thunderstorms for the Selma area — one on Friday afternoon and a second Sunday night.

Meteorologist Aaron Gleason said Friday’s early morning severe thunderstorms would stay mostly north of Selma. After 2 p.m., thunderstorms are expected to affect the Selma area, he said.

“We are looking at a few isolated severe thunderstorms Friday afternoon,” Gleason said. “We are thinking the storms are going to slow down, but could re-intensify later in the afternoon.”

He said there is a degree of uncertainty surrounding the storm, but the National Weather Service expects damaging winds and quarter-size hail.

Gleason said a second, Sunday storm would pose a more immediate risk to Selma. The storm is expected to affect the Selma area beginning at 10 p.m. Sunday.

He said the Sunday’s storm could cause isolated tornadoes, strong winds and heavy rainfall, measuring two to three inches.

Gleason recommended staying up-to-date with both storms as they could change course or intensify.
