Shelby Gene York, age 70, of Valley Grande, AL, passed away April 15, 2014.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Shelby and Merle York; brother, William “Bill” York and brother-in-law, Pepsi Bearden.

He is survived by his wife, Sue York; children Mark (Cheryl) York and Michael (Beth) York; step-children, Tina Plummer Penn and Monica Plummer; brothers, Faron (Linda) York and George (Pat) York; sisters, Vina Bearden, Nancy (Louis) McDonald and Karen (Kenneth) Helms; step-sisters, Pat Belcher and Susan (James) Smitherman; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; one expected great-grandchild, Richard Braylen Mitchell and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gene was a member of Joy Baptist Church and past member of the Dallas County Moose Lodge and Selma Boating Association.

Graveside services will be Friday, April 18, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in New Live Oak Cemetery with Mike Beard officiating and Selma Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be at the funeral home Thursday, April 17, 2014 from 5-7:00 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Jason Jones, Blaine Campbell, Matthew York, Michael York, Shelby York and Charles Vasser.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Montgomery Cancer Center, 4145 Carmichael Road, Montgomery, AL, 36106.
