A 32-year-old Selma man is dead after being shot in the chest just after midnight on Tuesday.

Andre Dewayne Robinson, of Selma, refused medical care after being shot in his chest during a robbery, according to Selma Police investigator Lt. Curtis Muhannad.

Muhannad said medical personnel tried to convince Robinson to go to the hospital, but Robinson continued to decline treatment. Once he lost consciousness, medical personnel transported Robinson to Vaughan Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Muhannad said two unidentified suspects confronted Robinson and four others on the 1700 block of St. Phillips Street. The suspects, wearing dark clothing and white masks, allegedly demanded money and brandished a shotgun.

Robinson and the others ran away as the suspects fired the 12-gauge shotgun, Muhannad said.

After being shot, Robinson reportedly walked to a nearby house on the 1600 block of 1st Avenue.

“When officers found him, he was standing on the front porch of the home and was complaining of breathing troubles,” Muhannad said. “Officers and EMTs pleaded with him to get care, but he declined.”

After interviewing the four other victims, Muhannad said police were unable to identify the shooters.

“We have had officers in the area throughout the day, canvassing the area, trying to get any information we can,” Muhannad said. “At this point, we are asking the community for information and hunting down any lead that we have.”

Muhannad said the charge facing those involved would be capital murder, as the murder took place during the commission of another felony.

None of the other victims received severe injuries from the shooting. Muhannad said one victim did receive lacerations to his leg while jumping a fence. He was treated and released from Vaughan Regional Medical Center.
