If forecasts are correct, Alabama will be under the severe weather gun early next week, according to the National Weather Service in Birmingham.
Three rounds of a combination of strong tornadoes, damaging straight-line winds and hectic rainfall are expected to hit portions of Alabama Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Gary Goggis said.
“Make appropriate arrangements for the severe weather that is expected,” Selma-Dallas County Emergency Management Director Rhonda Abbott said. “People who are in mobile homes should find, if they can, an alternate place.”
Goggis said the first round is predicted Monday from 6 a.m. to noon with a second round of severe weather to start just before 6 p.m. in Selma Monday and continue until 6 a.m. Tuesday. The last and most intense round of severe weather the National Weather service is expected around noon Tuesday with the potential to last all day through noon Wednesday, Goggis said.
“I would say probably for Selma it would end a little bit earlier than noon, probably around 9 or 10 a.m. Wednesday morning as the cold front pushes through,” Goggis said. “During that time is when we are expecting the main severe weather event to unfold that we are really concerned about.”
Abbot said the harsh weather could generate up to four or five inches of rain for the Dallas County area, which has the potential to result in some flooding.
