One woman is dead after being struck by a train Friday near Burnsville.
The incident occurred when a train, traveling on tracks near the intersection of Alabama Highway 14 and Dallas County Road 826, struck a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe carrying Candis Solomon Vice, 34.
Burnsville volunteer fire chief Steve Brewer said the train flung the car into a nearby ditch and the vehicle turned over.
He said Vice was unresponsive when the Burnsville Volunteer Fire Department arrived on scene. Medical personnel tried to resuscitate Vice, but were unsuccessful. Vice was pronounced dead on scene, according to an Alabama State Trooper release.
Brewer said he was unsure how Vice’s vehicle ended up on the tracks. The train engineer was also unsure whether Vice’s vehicle was stationary or moving across the tracks before the incident, according to Brewer.
The incident is still under investigation, according to the release.
