Leaders of the Dallas County School Board had a tough decision to make when they were looking to hire a new assistant superintendent of education, and it seems they made the right call.

Superintendent Don Willingham made the recommendation Wednesday to hire the school system’s current testing coordinatior, Vickie Poe, to take the role of assistant superintendent.

The list of applicants for the position included principals and supervisors with the school system as well as school leaders from aroung the state, showing the board wanted to be sure they found the best person for the job.

Promoting someone from within the system makes sense because she is already familiar with the people she will be working with on a daily basis, and can get to work immediately and effectively to improve the schools for our children.

Having worked for the school system for 15 years, Poe is more than familiar with the people and places she will be asked to serve in her new role.

We congratulate Poe on her promotion, and the board for the diligent work they have done to find the best fit for the position.
