Roles switched Tuesday night at Brantley Elementary as students took on responsibilities of teachers to show their parents how they use technology to learn.
Brantley Elementary held their first technology showcase Tuesday to introduce all of the technology the school has incorporated into the classroom with some financial support from a School Improvement Grant of nearly one million dollars. Parents had a chance to visit different classrooms to gain a better understanding of the Promethean boards, document cameras, iPads, laptops and other technology devices.
“It gives the students another avenue to learning. It expands their knowledge,” Brantley Elementary principal Audrey Strong said. “It opens up a world to them that’s not limited to the textbooks.”
Brantley Elementary students eagerly demonstrated to the parents how they use advanced technology to complete their daily lessons. Among the devices displayed was a Promethean board, which serves as an interactive white board.
Latoya Talbert, who teaches second grade at Brantley Elementary, said this new form of teaching has been effective, and she’s excited to witness its positive outcome.
“When I see that they can take an iPad, take when we’ve taught them and pretty much out do us, it’s just amazing to see it,” Talbert said. “It’s very rewarding.”
Bettie Evans, who parents two Brantley Elementary second grade students, attended Tuesday night’s technology showcase.
Evans said she was amazed by just much things have changed since she was in elementary school, but she can tell her kids love it by they way they are quick to tell her at the end of the school day about their time at Brantley.
“I’m proud of them,” Evans said. “I am so proud of my babies.”
