Encouraging to see organization expand reach to other ventures

The Blackbelt Benefit Group seems to be getting involved with different projects with increasing frequency.
Recently, the group hosted Art Jam and the Rock ‘n’ Ribs Benefit and the proceeds all went to area charities.
Now, the group plans to start a community garden and donate the products to those in need.
With Blackbelt Benefit Group’s past, the community garden is sure to be another success — mostly because of its intentions.
The Black Belt is historically the poorest region in Alabama and residents could certainly use any help available when putting dinner on the table, but education is another important consideration.
In the 21st century, much of what children know about food comes from signs at supermarkets. If the group can teach children even a few things about growing food, it’ll be a successful venture.
Let’s not forget that the group is taking an overgrown, unused lot and finding a purpose for it.
With so many wide open spaces in rural Alabama, there’s room for dozens of creative ideas just like this one.
