A man wanted for a 10-year-old armed robbery in Selma was returned Wednesday night.
According to a news release, Patrick Bernard Reese, 29, was arrested at the Selma Police Department at approximately 11 p.m. after being transported from the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta by SPD detectives.
Lt. Curtis Muhannad with SPD said his department made arrangements to fetch Reese after receiving a phone call about his release from Fulton County.
“He was serving some time over there for other crimes in Georgia,” Muhannad said. “We were contacted about our active warrant on Reese, so we arranged to pick him up at the time of his release and extradite him.”
Reese is wanted for his involvement in a Sept. 22, 2004 robbery at Flower’s Bakery on Citizens Parkway.
According to the release, Reese, along with Bryant Latimore and Quante Rice, robbed the business at gunpoint and forced the cashier to the rear of the business.
The trio fled to Georgia in October 2004 after Rice stole a vehicle from a Selma man and killed him near a local car wash.
Muhannad said the victim’s vehicle was later found in Atlanta, which led to the capture of the other two suspects.
“It has been our case all along, but the Georgia Bureau of Investigation assisted us with the victim’s vehicle by helping us with analysis and returning the vehicle,” Muhannad said.
Rice was convicted to a life sentence without parole after an appeal to the Alabama Supreme Court in September 2013.
Latimore was arrested in October 2004, but a grand jury issued a “No Bill,” meaning there was not sufficient evidence for prosecution.
Muhannad said he couldn’t predict the result of Reese’s case because of the nature of the courts.
“When you have one guy from the group serving a life sentence and another with a no bill, that should tell you something,” Muhannad said.
Reese is currently being held at the Dallas County Jail without bond. He is charged with one count of first-degree robbery.
A bond hearing was held Thursday afternoon, but District Attorney Michael Jackson said Reese’s case has been taken under advisement, meaning no decision has been made on his bond.
