Selma Police, Transportation departments deserve praise

The city of Selma just endured a full-scale Hollywood production blocking off some of the busiest portions of downtown for several days.
While some local business owners may have some complaints with the coordination and communication of the process, we all should keep in mind that the Selma Police Department and the Alabama Department of Transportation did an excellent job.
The Edmund Pettus Bridge is a historical symbol, but it is also part of many people’s daily routines. Even with the bridge closed for filming, Selma residents were able to use detours with relative ease, and life in Selma went on as usual.
The Selma Police Department helped to direct traffic during a time of great confusion for some, so we thank them for their help in getting us all where we needed to go.
The Department of Transportation was quick to replace traffic lights that were removed, and their tireless efforts deserve praise from those of us who drive on a daily basis, and enjoy the infrastructure they maintain.
It’s not everyday that people think about how nice it is to be able to travel quickly and safely from one place to another. All that is made possible because of the hard work of the men and women of the Department of Transportation and the Selma Police Department.
Once again, the people who worked to make the road closures for filming as painless as possible did a great job.
Thank you, and hopefully when the next movie production crew comes to town, we will be ready.
