Mr. Billy Roger Abbott, 67, of Prattville, Alabama, passed away Sunday, August 17, 2014, at the University of Alabama Birmingham Medical Center (UAB) after a lengthy illness. Billy Abbott was born October 22, 1946, in Maplesville, Alabama. Mr. Abbott grew up in the Selma community and attended Edward G. Parrish High School, graduating from there in 1965. Mr. Abbott attended Livingston University, in Livingston, Alabama for approximately two years, and then enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1968. Billy Abbott married Wanda Jean Gulledge of Verbena on December 22, 1967. Mr. Abbott served 20 years in the U. S. Air Force obtaining the rank of E-7 Master Sergeant, and completing multiple tours of duty in Vietnam, Thailand, Okinawa, Japan, Turkey, and many stateside tours as well. Mr. Abbott is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Wanda Jean Abbott (Gulledge), his son, Lance Eric Abbott, daughter in law, Jennifer Saville Abbott, and granddaughter, Taylor Elizabeth Abbott, all of Eufaula. Mr. Abbott is also survived by: his mother, Vera “Polly” Abbott of Selma, his sister, Shirley Ann (Abbott) Worrell and brother-in-law, Charles Worrell of Selma, and his sister, Donna Gail (Abbott) Goray, and brother-in-law, David Goray of Jacksonville. He was preceded in death by his father, John Thomas Abbott, Jr., his brother, Robert Earl Abbott, and sister-in-law, Rosa Lee (Barrett) Abbott. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM till 2:00 PM at Prattville Memorial on Fairview Avenue in Prattville, Alabama. Memorial service will begin at 2:00 PM, with the graveside service to follow the chapel service.
