Selma-Dallas County Sav-A-Life crisis pregnancy center is holding its annual golf tournament Saturday at Valley Grande Golf Course.
The tournament is a three-man scramble that will feature 26 teams. Jennifer Dobbs, executive director for Selma-Dallas County Sav-A-Life, said the tournament is way for people to spend their Saturday while also helping the area non-profit, which provides emotional and spiritual support to anyone facing pregnancy related issues.
“Generally everybody has a really good time,” Dobbs saod. “We cook hamburgers and hot dogs and have drinks and chips.”
Sav-A-Life has had two major goals in mind through recent fundraisers. The facility wanted to purchase an ultrasound machine and hopes to finalize those plans in the upcoming weeks.
Sav-A-Life would also like to move into a larger facility, something Dobbs said she would like to do in the upcoming year.
“We have outgrown this facility,” Dobbs said. “During our parenting classes we don’t have a room large enough to get everyone in. We think we can help more people out and have larger classes if we have the rooms.”
The addition of the ultrasound machine also ups the need for more space, Dobbs said.
“With the ultrasound machine coming, we are going to generate more clients that way,” Dobbs said “Currently we only have two counseling rooms, and I feel like we are going to be pretty swamped with that.”
Dobbs said the tournament is filling up fast, with only a handful of open team spots remaining as of Tuesday. The cost is $70 per player and $210 per team.
The winner of the tournament will win $100, second place will take home $75 and third $50. Winners of the longest drive and closest to the pin challenges will also win $100.
The tournament starts at 9 a.m. Saturday.
