Grand jury indicts 15 from raids

Fifteen people have been indicted on charges stemming from a series of drug raids that occurred June 18 in Perry County.
District Attorney Michael Jackson said the men were indicted by a Perry County grand jury on Aug. 15 on a variety of drug-related charges.
The suspects were among 40 who were arrested in raids that utilized officials from local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.
Another 25 suspects arrested in the raids are facing federal charges that have not been formally announced yet.
Looking over the list of charges and bonds Thursday, Jackson said his office was satisfied with the number of charges and bonds
“The bonds range from $50,000 to $400,000 and we are definitely pleased with those amounts,” Jackson said. “These guys will be brought before a circuit judge in Perry County in the next few months.”
Jackson said the investigation that lead to the drug raid and arrest started in 2012 after complaints from Perry County residents about the drug problem in the county.
“A lot of citizens had come to me complaining about drug dealers setting up shop in Perry County, and people are much happier up there already,” Jackson said.
He added that his office was continuing to investigate into any remaining drug trafficking that is still taking place in the county.
“The investigation is still ongoing about the criminal element in Perry County, so this is just one part of that,” Jackson said. “But, it’s definitely a good first step.”
Jackson said those indicted by the Perry County grand jury include:
• ViJay Billingsley was charged with two counts of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, and is facing a bond of $100,000.
• Bernard Breelove was indicted on one count of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance and faces a bond of $100,000.
• Damian Breedlove was indicted on once count of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance and was given a $50,000.
• Derrick Brooks has been charged with one count of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance and received a $100,000 bond.
• Christopher Collins was charged with one count of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, with a $50,000 bond.
4 Russlin Ford was indicted on five counts of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, and he received a $250,000 bond.
• Devron J. Green was indicted on two charges of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, and his bond was set at $100,000.
• Traci L. Green was charged with one count of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, and he faces a $50,000 bond.
• Timothy Hawkins was indicted on four charges of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, and he was given a $400,000.
• Vincent Heard was indicted on four counts of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, and his bond was set at $200,000.
• Tony Lorena Hogan was indicted on one count of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, and was given a $25,000 bond.
• Chester Earl Mims was charged with two counts of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, and he received a $100,000 bond.
• Charles Leon Moore was indicted on one count of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance and was given a $50,000.
• Jerry Moore was charged with one count of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, and received a $100,000 bond.
• Jeffrey Tubbs was indicted on one count of trafficking cocaine and one count of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, and he received a $250,000 bond.
Representatives from the from the office of Kenyen R. Brown, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama, could not be reached for comment Thursday about the federal cases.
