As I was heading to get a quick bite to eat for lunch the other day, I started to notice a change in season I felt was a little early.

Now, considering I still do not have all of my clocks set back after Daylight Savings Time ended last weekend, there’s really no telling whether or not this change of season was on time, or extremely early as I had suspected.

By the way, based on the number of button combinations I used in trying to change the clock in my car, I am not sure if the display is telling me the time or just how many miles I have remaining to empty.

With Thanksgiving less than two weeks away, I am getting everything in order at my house for the convergence of family and friends I normally have over on that holiday.

But, in no way whatsoever am I ready for the Christmas decorations popping up.

I have seen Christmas trees in storefronts, windows painted with Christmas theme and I am starting to see the re-emergence of strings of Christmas lights dangling from area homes.

Please wait just a few more days, please?

Then, add to all of this the Selma-Dallas County Chamber of Commerce’s event coming up this Saturday. “Green Saturday” is designed to give those wanting to get a jump on their Christmas shopping additional reasons to make Selma their first stop when checking off the shopping list.

At this point, I don’t even have a shopping list, much less have any of the items purchased. In fact, I am closer to finishing up my shopping for Christmas 2003 than I am in having this holiday season covered.

With all of that said, I love the holidays — Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years.

It is a time for family and friends to get together, tell stories that are close to being true, take pictures in sweaters you wish you never owned and eat way more food than you ever should.

But, I just want them in all the proper order and at their own pace. Let’s get past Thanksgiving first before we move on to Christmas.
