Walter G. Boone, 79, of Valley Grande, died October 26, 2014 from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bertha H. Moore and Walter A. Boone; two sisters, Jackie B. Miller and Bonnie B. Harris. He is survived by his wife Sarah Huggins Boone; a daughter, Ann (Kyle) Redden, two grandsons, Stewart & Will Redden of Spanish Fort; a godson W. Lacy (Frances) Kendrick and honorary grandsons, Will, Tommy and Walter Kendrick of Valley Grande; Three brothers, Marvin Earl (Moonyene) Boone of Bay Minette; Ronnie (Kathy) Boone, of Fairhope and Randy (Mimi) Boone of Blacksburg, VA. and numerous nieces and nephews.
Walter G. Boone grew up in Little River, Alabama and attended Baldwin County Schools. He served in the U.S. Air Force and later graduated from Howard College School of Pharmacy. Walter was chief pharmacist at the Mobile Infirmary in Mobile, Alabama before moving to Selma in 1966. He was the first hospital pharmacist in the Selma area. He later went on to work with the Alabama Department of Public Health, retiring in 2000. He was distinguished in the field of pharmacy and was appointed to serve on the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy 1982-1991. Walter enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, gardening and his beagles. A memorial service will be held on October 30, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Elkdale Baptist Church, Selma, Alabama. Visitation will be from 10 – 11 a.m. in the church sanctuary. A private burial will be held in Evergreen, Alabama. His family encourages memorials to be made to the Elkdale Baptist Church Building Fund or to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
