Lonnie Dow Porter III

Lonnie Dow Porter III, of Mpika, Zambia, born January 29, 1945, died on October 26, 2014. Lonnie was a graduate of A. G. Parrish High School class of 1964.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie and Helen Porter of Selma and a brother, John Porter of Tallahassee, Florida. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Pauline Borsboom Porter of Mpika, Zambia, sister-in-law, Judy Porter, niece Kelly and nephew Ryan of Tallahassee, Florida.

After high school, Lonnie joined the U. S. Air Force and among other assignments, spent a year in Vietnam.

After serving our country, he attended Troy University and earned his B. S. degree. Upon graduation from Troy, Lonnie served 4 years with the Peace Corp in Kenya and Zambia. He later returned to Zambia in the construction business doing extensive building for the Catholic diocese in Chilonga, Zambia. The funeral service was held on Friday, October 31, 2014 at the Catholic Church at Chilonga and was followed by his burial at the cemetery of Chilonga Mission. Lonnie and Pauline’s dear friend, Father Thomas officiated the service.
