A 21-year-old Orrville man was shot and killed Saturday morning, according to Sgt. Mike Granthum with the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched to the scene about 9:45 a.m. and found the victim, who was identified as Bruce Dawson, lying in the 200 block of County Road 340.
He suffered a single gunshot wound to the head, according to Granthum.
“Some neighbors said they heard people arguing and then heard a gunshot,” Granthum said.
Deputies recovered evidence from the scene they hope will aid in making an arrest.
“We do have some stuff from forensics that we believe will lead to the suspect,” Granthum said.
Cedric Butler of Orrville has been named a person of interest, according to authorities.
“We know he was at the crime scene from evidence collected and witnesses,” said Granthum.
Deputies want to speak with Butler. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department at 874-2530 or the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-866-44-CRIME.
Information leading to an arrest may result in a cash reward.
The victim’s body was taken to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery for an autopsy.
Deputies continue to investigate.
District Attorney Michael Jackson said Butler is the same individual currently facing first-degree assault charges after allegedly shooting a man in the torso in 2013.
The suspect was issued a $500,000 bond, and was released after making the bond, Jackson said.
