The Jr. Cowboys defeated the Jr. Bears 16-12 Thursday night at Memorial Stadium to win the 5, 6 and 7-year-old youth football championship.
“It means a lot [ to them],” Jr. Cowboys coach Calvin Pritchett said. “A lot of them don’t know they are winning and don’t know why they are winning, but they like it. They like that they are No. 1. They like that.”
The Jr. Cowboys only lost one game all season and took advantage of an early fumble Thursday to make sure they didn’t miss out on a youth title.
“That changed the game,” Pritchett said. “We fumbled the first possession and they got the ball. We played two defensive plays and they fumbled and we got it back and we got a score.”
JoDarius Hamilton and Kemyron Pritchett scored touchdowns for the Jr. Cowboys in the win. Hamilton’s score came on a 6-yard run in the first quarter, while Pritchett scored on a 9-yard run in the fourth quarter.
Chauncey White scored both touchdowns for the Bears, both in the second half.
