It’s time for important discussions

It seems the race to the political high road has already begun for existing an soon-to-be existing members of the Alabama Legislature.

If it’s not the made-up debate on what to do with complimentary Iron Bowl tickets presented to members of the Legislature, it’s the static created by what to do — or not do — with the most recent pay raise approved by the previous Legislature.

There are those who ran on the promise to repeal the pay raise. There are those who said they would donate the amount of the pay raise, while others railed against the automatic increases built into the approved legislation.

But, does any of this really matter? Isn’t this just political window dressing on an elected body who are simply incapable to go a week — or longer we pray — without hearing themselves talk?

Either way, all the Iron Bowl tickets and repealed legislative pay riases packed into a bucket are not going to begin to solve the problems facing our state and it is that discussion we desparately want to hear.

We want to hear what our elected leaders — and the new Republican majority — plan to do to solve an education funding crisis.

We want to hear ideas on creating jobs, igniting a sluggish economy or anything that in anyway matters.

We are desperate for leadership from the Alabama Legislature but so far all we have heard from those about to be in power is the same old stuff we just recently voted out of Montgomery.

It’s time for adults to start having adult conversations.
