Alzheimer’s Outreach deserves support

Six in 10 people with dementia will wander, according to the Alzheimer’s Association. As a result, countless familes will have to face the fear of their loved ones wandering off to potentially dangerous areas too disoriented to find their way back.

Thankfully, the Alzheimer’s Outreach Group and area Regions Banks are providing the public with a chance to help fund bracelets that can track patients enrolled in the Project Lifesaver Program.

Trained emergency responders associated with the Project Lifesavers can locate every individual enrolled in its program in less than 30 minutes using the bracelets, which emit a tracking signal.

Alzheimer’s Outreach Group is conducting a Bronze Bowl, encouraging residents to visit Regions banks in Dallas County and give $15 or more in return for University of Alabama or Auburn University bronze key chains.

The team with the most donations through Jan. 12 will be declared the winner.

With the donations going to Project Lifesaver’s efforts to buy transmitter bracelets for its clients, we feel this is a creative, fun way to help provide devices with a value of $300 each to those that need it, at no cost. It deserves the community’s support.
