New King B-Ski crowned at Selma Country Club

he Knights of Revelry enter Friday night while tapping their canes at the Selma Country Club during their annual Grand Ball.
The tapping of canes could be heard Friday night at the Selma Country Club at the annual Knights of Revelry Grand Ball.
The new King B-Ski LXXXIV Clyde Cox waits on his queen to join him.
The Knights of Revelry was founded in 1933 by attorney Henry Gamble, who decided to form the group as a way for the men of Selma to be able to get together and enjoy each others company during the trying times of the Great Depression.
“This is a group that’s been together since the early 1930s,” said Bill Gamble, herald of the group. “There was a lot of problems with money and other things, and they wanted to have a good time.”
Before the ball could begin, the new king and queen had to be announced. The new King B-Ski LXXXIV Clyde Cox and his Queen Carolyn Cox made their way to the throne to kickoff the night.
“Some of the guys starting the group, my daddy being one of them, took some of the ideas that they had from groups they had been [a part of] in college and put them in the way we operate,” Gamble said.
After the ladies had been announced, the king read an original, and quite witty, proclamation for all to hear. Soon after, the king and queen took to the floor to dance the night away.
“They like having a lot of fun and acting funny and having a good time,” Gamble said. “It makes a lot of noise, and it’s just fun and a festive kind of thing.”
